Les Rues de Paris (22/03/2013)

Last week I made another short trip to Paris to relax, shoot and visit some galleries.
I was lucky enough to see the Joel Meyerowitz Retrospective at the Maison Europeenne de la Photographie, which I highly recommend.

Here are some new shots for my Paris set "Les Rues de Paris", shot on the Olympus OM-D E-M5 with the 12mm and 14mm lenses:

  1. When I saw the first photo I thought "yikes" only because I thought I had got the wrong page and thought it was an advert!

    1. I'm sorry... Maybe I should have photoshopped the advert out!?! :P

  2. Nice images. I like your film images also and I follow your blog. I notice you change cameras from digital to film and vice-versa. Which medium are you more inclined shooting with? I also love film, but when I see the bunch of plastic from the film boxes and the chemicals from machines after developing, I tend to take my digital camera more often in my hands. So, it's basically the ecological/environmental factor that lets me be sceptical about film, though haven't thought about how "clean" is a digital camera.

What are your thoughts regarding this?

    Thanks!

    1. I use film because of two main reasons:
      1. I prefer the workflow, over digital. It forces me sit on my shots for longer, hence allowing for a more objective way of judging whether the photo is good or not.
      2. The Ricoh GR1v is a camera which is so much more compact, discreet and fast to use compared to almost any digital camera I've used previously (and as you know, I own a OM-D)

I dedicated an entire post on why I still love using film where I get into much more detail. You can read that post here: http://abtin-e.blogspot.co.uk/2012/05/why-i-love-using-film-26052012.html

Regarding the environmental impact of using film, I tend to develop up to 10 rolls of film before discarding my developer in accordance to the manufacturers disposal guidelines.
There's really no way of comparing the "greenness of film compared to digital" as there are simply too many things that need to be considered... but in all honesty there are so many other things that I could do to help save the environment which I don't do as much as I should, so I'll be starting with those first.

I really appreciate that you took the time to comment and ask questions.
      Cheers,

      Abtin
