It's the start of the week and I'm going to start you all off with some colour for a change.
These are some of the shots I grabbed last Friday, on my way home. I took a detour through central London, past Carnaby Street, Covent Garden and Leicester Square.

Looking back at my series, "The Daily Commute", I have decided that I haven't completed it and would like to revisit the theme, carrying on my work until later this year and throughout the London 2012 Olympics.
My final goal will be to filter the photos down to the very best ones in order to publish a photobook (possibly through blurb to start with).

Wow... What a weekend...
Greek riots, footballers not shaking hands, Legendary singers being found dead in their hotel rooms...

I went out Friday night and found the following photos on Sunday. In case you were wondering, it took me all of Saturday to recover from my hangover, and I've still not recovered from sleeping badly; my neck hurts every time I move my head.

So yeah, back to the photos. I don't know what happened to the photos on my camera before Friday night. I seemed to have deleted them.
I took these on the GF3 with it's on-board flash! They are highly experimental, I don't think I like this style but it was worth a try.

Bonus shot. Alternative processing using Silver-Efex.

We have snow! I was out yesterday when the snow started and I tell you, my willingness to stick around and wait for some interesting shot dropped like the snow flakes dropping onto my hair.

Paris Day Trip

Guess where I had to go last minute on a Sunday night? Work sent me to Paris for erm, work stuff on Monday. It was freezing cold I could barely take my gloves off.
Managed to grab some shots on my Nikon FM3A and the Nikkor f/1.2 but obviously it'll be a while before I get them developed (providing the x-ray scanners at the Eurostar terminals didn't completely f*ck my film up).
Also managed a few shots on GF3...

Yayoi Kusama @ Cenre Pompidou

As you all know I was in Paris over the Xmas period. During this time I had the opportunity to visit many museums and in particular my favourite modern art museum in Paris, the Centre Pompidou. It just happened that there was a Yayoi Kasuma exhibition on while I was there. Now, if you haven't heard of her, she's one of the most famous female Japanese artists and one of my personal favourite. A common theme of her work is obsessive repetition, and patterns, which of course creates a very striking subject for photography.

Anyhow, I managed to take some shots of her work in exhibition, capturing the public interaction with her work. I purposely tried to create a high speed film look through my processing as unfortunately I did not have my film cameras with me at the time.
I just hope I don't get sued by her or the Centre Pompidou's legal teams.

I hope you all had a great new years eve. I met some really cool people at the house party I was at. The drinks and conversation was flowing and there was a nice chilled out vibe.

I've just received my developed scans from a roll of Kodak Tmax 3200 film I started shooting on Halloween night. I finished the roll around a week ago and here it is on the blog.

It's the fastest film I've ever shot, but I'm pleasantly surprised by it's performance as almost the whole roll was shot in very dark conditions.

Here are some shots from a Monday off from work around a month ago. I ran two rolls of Tri-X through the Mamiya ZM Quartz, using a 50mm and 135mm lenses. I didn't manage to capture many great shots but here are the results nevertheless.

It's getting darker earlier, limiting my opportunities to go out and shoot. I have however been accumulating gear from ebay. Mostly manual focus Nikon lenses for my Nikon FM3A. I've also ordered a Nikon F to Canon EOS lens adapter with AF confirmation chip. This will hopefully allow me to use my new favourite lens, the Nikkor 50mm f/1.2 on my Canon 550D with the aid of red-dot focus confirmation. I'll post some samples when I have it.

Tales from the London Transport System - The Daily Commute Part 1

I've been working on this series for a couple of months now and I finally feel that it's complete enough to start sharing on the blog.

A collection of shots on London public transport, on my way to and from work.

The London Underground, where I spend at least two hours a day on a crowded train going from one end of the line to the other, while people come and go. The same people sitting in the same parts of the carriage, everyday. The same routines; read the paper, listen to music, stare at the person across the aisle.

The bus garage. A place where you feel a bond with your fellow commuters who are always there waiting for the same bus as you. A bond brought about from the constant delays and bus cancellations. Tired looks, fed up sighs and groans, empathetic glances at these strangers who feel like family.

5 days a week, 234 times a year.

Contemplative Photography

Dear friends and followers,

I hope you are enjoying my take on street photography. As you have noticed it is a big passion of mine and in a way it is a release from everyday life.

However, I have recently started practicing the art of contemplative photography. This is not so much a genre of photography as it is a way of seeing the richness of ordinary and daily experiences. I have found and learned some techniques which have helped me see and view my surroundings in a much more captivating way and ultimately I think this will also ultimately improve the quality of my street work.

I have shared a few examples of photos I have took which I feel falls into the category of contemplative photography.

I hope you enjoy viewing them.

I wanted to capture the essence of Soho, Chinatown and Leicester Sq., London, at night. I've not processed the high ISO noise out on purpose as I believe it gives it a grittier feel and have purposely left the set in colour to capture the ambience of the place.

I was very pleased with the film as it came with the camera when I bought it online and it's a discontinued type, so it was obviously quite old.

They were shot walking through Hyde Park, down Park Lane, and through Picadilly Circus, and finally ending up on the south of the river across Westminster Bridge.

Another bus ride to Liverpool St and a leisurely stroll to Brick Lane. A bit of irony here, I had some guy with a disposable camera (with a U.S. flag on it) nervously ask me and my companion to take a photo of us. Now this is weird part, we were in Brick Lane and by Brick Lane standards we didn't stand out at all (if anything we were less trendy than your average Brick Lane cats). Of course I accepted and the guy clicks the shutter with his awkward shaky hands, realising he hasn't wound the film yet and sheepishly apologises before finally managing to take a snap.

Looking back at it I think I would have had a cool shot of him snapping a shot of us and maybe gave him a card.
